Daegu reported on Friday its highest daily number of new COVID-19 infections in more than a year and a half.
According to officials in the southeastern city, 128 additional cases were confirmed the previous day.
It's the most transmissions since the 131 cases were recorded on March 11, 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic here.
At the time, there was a massive outbreak linked to the Shincheonji religious sect in the city.
Nearly half of the latest infections come from clusters at a bar and singing room that foreign nationals frequent and work.
Deputy Mayor Chae Hong-ho has warned that the more transmissible Delta variant continues to spread.
He urged residents to get tested if they feel symptoms even if they have been fully vaccinated.
