Health authorities have said a COVID-19 vaccination plan for children aged 5 to 11 could be announced by next month.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said Friday it is monitoring how vaccines are being administered to children in other countries before making any final decisions.
The drug safety ministry is expected to soon approve COVID-19 vaccines for the adolescent group amid rising infection rates among school-aged children and continued spread of the highly transmissible Omicron coronavirus variant.
To reduce infection risks, the KDCA said it will also continue to encourage teens between the ages of 12 and 17 to get their shots ahead of the start of the spring semester
