A top Japanese official says his country is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics this summer as scheduled despite concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Thursday that his government has not made any changes to its plans when asked whether there is a need to review the option of postponing the event.
The remarks came amid speculation that the Tokyo Games could be delayed or canceled altogether.
The competition is set to open on July 24.■
