Organizers of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics say they will conduct a "detailed assessment" of how the postponement of the Tokyo Summer Games will impact their plans.
The Tokyo Games have been delayed a year amid concerns over the novel coronavirus pandemic.
They are scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, meaning the Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital will open less than six months after.
In a statement carried by the Xinhua News Agency, Beijing organizers said they were in close communication with the International Olympic Committee to ensure the "special situation" is handled properly.
Chinese officials say their preparations are on target and they have no plans to delay events.■
