Football star Son Heung-min will complete his military training in South Korea this month.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed in a statement Monday that Son will rejoin them following the conclusion of his training in May.

Yonhap News reported last week that Son was scheduled to begin three weeks of training on April 20 with the Marine Corps to fulfill required terms for the military service exemption he earned by winning the gold medal for South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games.

Son returned home in late March for what Tottenham said then were "personal reasons."

Sources said it was due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, and so he could continue recovering from a broken forearm he suffered in February.

The Premier League, which has been on hold since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, recently announced the 2019-2020 season would only resume when it's "safe and appropriate to do so," giving Son time to get his military training done this spring.■
