More fans will soon be allowed into stadiums to watch local professional sporting events.
Senior health ministry official Yoon Tae-ho told reporters Monday the government will expand the maximum capacity of stadiums amid the coronavirus pandemic to 30 percent from 10 percent.
The change will be implemented for baseball games from Tuesday and football from Friday.
Yoon said sports leagues have been doing a good job of following quarantine guidelines since a limited number of fans were welcomed back into stadiums on July 26.
Before that, matches were held without spectators in the stands to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Stadiums are enforcing anti-coronavirus measures including mandatory fever checks, the wearing of face masks, spaced out seating and a ban on outside food.
