LPGA star Kim Sei-young has been named for the first time as the Women's Player of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America.

The 26-year-old South Korean received 69 percent of the votes to receive the honor for her performance in 2020.

"I am very pleased and honored to receive such an important award," Kim said.

"It is an amazing feeling to get recognized for my efforts and dedication. This is a true booster encouraging me to continue my hard work. I am also very appreciative of the GWAA's tremendous work for the sport of golf."

Currently ranked world No. 2, Kim grabbed her first major title in October at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, immediately followed by her victory in the Pelican Women's Championship in November.

She also won the LPGA Player of the Year award.

Men's world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer were named the Men`s Player of the Year and the Senior Player of the Year, respectively.

The Player of the Year awards are normally presented at an annual banquet in Augusta, Georgia, before the start of the Masters, but because of COVID-19, the event has been canceled.

The GWAA said the winners will receive their awards later this year.
