South Korea added a surprise gold medal Monday, on Day 10 of the Tokyo Olympics.
Gymnast Shin Jea-hwan topped the podium in the men's vault to become only the second Olympic gymnastics champion from the country.
He follows Yang Hak-seon, who won gold in the same event nine years ago at the 2012 London Games.
Shin scored an average of 14.783 points after two vaults in the final held Monday at Ariake Gymnastics Centre.
Although he and Denis Ablyazin of the Russian Olympic Committee had a tie score, Shin's first vault had a higher difficulty score of 6.000.
Shin's victory put South Korea in 10th place in the overall medal standings with six gold, four silver and nine bronze medals.
