Foldable smartphones by Samsung and Huawei
Samsung Electronics is set to unveil a new foldable smartphone next month that could cost less than 2 million won.
The clamshell-type foldable phone, known as the Galaxy Z Flip, will be introduced at the company's "Unpacked" event in San Francisco on February 11, along with a new version of its flagship smartphone.
Industry insiders speculated on Thursday that the price of the new foldable could be set around 1.5 million won, much cheaper than its predecessor, the Galaxy Fold, which was priced around 2.4 million won.
The difference is based on expectations the new model will have a smaller screen and slightly downgraded specifications.
Analysts project Samsung will face fierce challenges this year in the foldable phone market as competitors gear up to launch their own foldable handsets, including Motorola and Huawei.■
