David Stilwell, U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs
Top U.S. diplomat for East Asia policy says he hopes the recent replacement of North Korea's foreign minister signals a positive change for the stalled nuclear talks between Pyongyang and Washington.
David Stilwell, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs made the remark during a seminar Friday.
North Korea confirmed Thursday that Ri Son-gwon, a high-ranking official who led inter-Korean relations has replaced Ri Yong-ho as the country's top diplomat.
The change in the top post has raised speculation of a shift in the North's approach to the U.S. and South Korea amid stalled denuclearization talks.■
