North Korea's quarantine effort
North Korea's official newspaper has reiterated that no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus have been reported in the country.
Citing a Pyongyang health official, the Rodong Sinmun reported Tuesday that government measures, including swiftly implementing an emergency quarantine system shortly after the outbreak began in China, have helped the North combat the virus.
Earlier, North Korea tightened its border with China and expanded the mandatory quarantine period for people at high risk to 30 days.
Repeated announcements by the North that it has not had any confirmed cases have raised speculation that it might be concealing information regarding the outbreak due to weak health systems to test and treat patients.■
