North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo-jong
The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has threatened to scrap a military tension reduction agreement with South Korea and completely scrap all exchanges unless action is taken to stop anti-Pyongyang leaflets from being sent across the border.
In a statement carried Thursday by the Korean Central News agency, Kim Yo-jong, who is also the first vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, warned that good faith and reconciliation can never go together with such hostile activities.
The state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported that Kim specified the distribution of anti-North Korea propaganda leaflets sent by a group of defectors late last month, which were carried by a huge balloon released from the South Korean city of Gimpo.
The regime leader's sister said South Korean authorities will be forced to "pay a dear price" if they let this situation go on while making excuses of freedom of speech.
Kim gave examples of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, Mount Kumgang tours, the inter-Korean liaison office and the joint military agreement as possible options for withdrawal.
