CNN has reported that a previously undeclared North Korean facility is potentially being used to build nuclear warheads, citing satellite imagery.

The report published Wednesday said the images, captured by Planet Labs and analyzed by experts at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, show an active facility in the village of Wollo-ri near the capital city of Pyongyang.

CNN quoted Jeffrey Lewis, a professor at the institute, as saying that "it has all the signatures of a North Korean nuclear facility -- security perimeter, on-site housing, monuments to unpublicized leadership visits, and an underground facility."

The facility was first identified in 2015 by researchers at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies.

Lewis also explained that vehicle traffic at the site, including cars, trucks and shipping containers, indicates the factory is very active.

He said activity has not slowed down -- "not during negotiations and not now," and that he believes it's still making nuclear weapons.
