A U.S. website that monitors North Korea says the regime appears to have begun rehearsals for a military parade it is expected to hold next month mark the 75th anniversary its ruling Workers' Party.
There is speculation the North could use the event to show off newly developed weapons.
According to a report by 38 North report released Wednesday, satellite imagery taken on August 31 of the Mirim airfield in Pyongyang shows "hundreds of vehicles parked in the northwest parking lots adjacent to the parade grounds and thousands of troops in formations near or in the area that replicates Kim Il Sung Square."
This year's party founding anniversary is drawing keen attention as leader Kim Jong-un said in his New Year's address that he will soon showcase a "new strategic weapon."
