Kim Song, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, addresses the General Assembly on September 29, 2020.
North Korea has called on governments around the world to "display effective leadership" in the fight against the coronavirus.
In a rare live address at the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, Kim Song, Pyongyang's U.N. ambassador, said the North's own COVID-19 measures, which it called "preemptive, timely and strong," ensured it had the disease "under safe and stable control."
He said a number of measures are now being taken to prevent the virus from entering the country.
While Kim did not mention the United States or President Donald Trump directly, he spoke of "the maneuvers of hostile forces," apparently referring to joint military exercises by Washington and Seoul.
He also commented on recent typhoons that hit North Korea hard, saying the regime is making efforts to remove damage on its own and stabilize the lives of people as soon as possible.
