North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently visited a flood-hit border village to check on recovery efforts.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday that Kim inspected a reconstruction site in the central border county of Kimhwa and learned in detail about damage to dwellings, farms, transportation, the power grid and telecommunications.

He was accompanied by his sister, Kim Yo-jong, who made her first public appearance since late July.

According to the report, the regime leader expressed great satisfaction with the work of the People's Army after hearing that about 88 percent of the construction project had been finished for nearly 1,000 families, including several-story dwellings and single-story houses in the area.

Kim was quoted as saying "this year has been the one of unprecedented hardships but it will be a year of great victory with particularly great worth of struggle."

State media did not provide an exact date of the leader's visit, although it's suspected he carried out the field inspection on Thursday, as his activities are usually reported the following day.
