South Korean defense authorities say they are working with the United States to closely analyze the new intercontinental ballistic missile unveiled by North Korea on Saturday, during a parade marking the 75th founding anniversary of its ruling Workers' Party.
Colonel Kim Jun-rak of Seoul's Joints Chiefs of Staff said Monday that a more detailed examination is needed to determine whether the ICBM has multiple warheads.
The missile appeared to be between 23 to 24 meters long, which is at least 2 meters longer than older models, raising speculation that it could have more than one warhead.
Earlier, the defense ministry expressed concern over the ICBM and called on Pyongyang to abide by inter-Korean deals reached in 2018 to ease military tensions.
