North Korea, which claims to have no coronavirus cases, is expected to receive nearly 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility, a global vaccine distribution program.
The U.N.-backed initiative said in an interim delivery report published Wednesday that it will provide the regime with 1.99 million doses of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca, produced by the Serum Institute of India, within the first half of the year.
North Korea is among the 92 underdeveloped countries subject to the COVAX vaccine provision plan funded by developed nations.
South Korea, meanwhile, will be given at least 2.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.
Overall, the COVAX Facility plans to distribute more than 330 million doses to 145 participating countries.
