U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan says the Joe Biden administration’s new policy toward North Korea is not aimed at hostility but solutions.

Speaking to ABC News Sunday, Sullivan said the United States is prepared to engage in diplomacy but work on practical measures to achieve the ultimate goal of completely denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

The remarks came shortly after Pyongyang threatened Washington that it would find itself in a very difficult situation, taking issue with Biden's recent remarks to Congress.

Last week, the American president said his country will closely work with allies to address the North’s nuclear issue through "diplomacy, as well as deterrence."

Sullivan said the U.S. believes that rather than an all-for-all or nothing-for-nothing, a more calibrated, practical-measured approach stands the best chance of actually moving the ball down the field towards reducing the challenge posed by the regime’s nuclear program.
