President Joe Biden said Monday the United States will share an additional 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines with the world as domestic demand for shots have dropped while disparities in distribution have grown more evident.
The announcement comes on top of the Biden administration's prior commitment to share about 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"This means over the next six weeks the United States of America will send over 80 million doses overseas. That represents 13 percent of the vaccines produced by the United States by the end of June. This will be more vaccines than any country has actually shared to date. Five times more than any country."
Biden said "America will never be fully safe until the pandemic that's raging globally is under control."
He added that, compared to other countries like Russia and China that have sought to leverage their domestically produced doses, "we will not use our vaccines to secure favors from other countries."
The Biden administration has not yet revealed how the latest commitment of vaccines will be shared or which countries will receive them.
