The government has decided to extend coronavirus social distancing measures, including a ban on group gatherings of five or more people, for another three weeks.
Health Minister Kwon Deok-cheol announced Friday that Level 2 distancing in the greater Seoul area and Level 1.5 distancing in most other regions will remain in place until July 4.
Officials said business operations of sports games, concerts, or other cultural events considered low risk may be allowed in phases.
The current anti-virus measures have been in place over the past four months.
But health authorities are expected to roll out a set of new distancing rules in July, in line with the country's accelerating vaccination rate.
Since the start of the pandemic, South Korea has never imposed a major coronavirus lockdown or restrictions on movement.
