The National Fire Agency says it will be inspecting large warehouses across the country in the wake of the deadly blaze that broke out at a Coupang distribution center in Gyeonggi Province last week.
The agency plans to carry out unannounced safety checks through July 2, hitting nearly 500 sites.
Gas and power companies will join the inspections, if needed, officials said.
They will look into whether the warehouses are up to fire code, including the proper installation of sprinkler systems and emergency evacuation routes.
Authorities said sprinklers at the Coupang warehouse failed to operate for the first eight minutes of the fire, which left one firefighter dead.
