  • ≡ Causes of Deaths Of 4 Infants Unable To Be Determined With Naked Eye: Interim Result

    Forensic doctors conducted autopsies to find out the exact causes of death of four infants who suddenly suffered cardiac arrest at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital Saturday night. The National Forensic Service said there was no cause of death that could be determined with the naked eye and said various tests needed to be conducted such as looking at tissue through microscope. Final autopsy results are expected to be released in about a month's time. Meanwhile, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to release further details around Wednesday on the type of bacteria that was found in blood samples taken from three of the four babies prior to their deaths.■[2017.12.18]

  • ≡ Moon: His Visit To China Laid Groundwork For Normalizing Relations With Beijing

    President Moon Jae-in said that his recent state visit to China laid the groundwork for normalizing their relations frayed by Seoul's THAAD deployment. Moon made the remarks during a meeting with his senior secretaries, adding the visit paved the way to get the bilateral ties back on track, not only in the economic sectors, but also in political and security areas. Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry described Moon's visit as a success, where the two sides agreed to improve and develop their relations further.■[2017.12.18]

  • ≡ Chinese Warplanes Breached Korean Air Defense Zone: Military

    Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff says five Chinese military planes breached the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone earlier this morning. The JCS said the aircraft -- two bombers, two fighter jets and a reconnaissance plane -- were detected infringing on the KADIZ from the southwest of Ieo Island just after 10:00 a.m. and flying out of the zone a few hours later. South Korean fighters were deployed to take what the JCS called "normal tactical measures." China's military is said to have explained that the operation was part of a routine exercise. The JCS said it is analyzing the move's "exact intention."■[2017.12.18]

  • ≡ SHINee Member Jonghyun Dies In Apparent Suicide: Police

    K-pop band SHINee's member Jonghyun has died today in an apparent suicide. According to police, the 28-year-old was found unconscious at a rented apartment studio in Cheongdam, southern Seoul at around 6 p.m. Investigators believe he died from inhaling toxic fumes, as they discovered coal briquettes nearby.■[2017.12.18]

  • ≡ Ex-NIS Chief Won Sei-Hoon Denies Corruption Allegations

    Former National Intelligence Service chief Won Sei-hoon has denied all charges against him, which include bribery and loss of state funds. In today's first preparatory hearing for his trial, his lawyer said the charges were disputable. Won is suspected of using 6.3 billion won of the spy agency's budget running cyber teams for illegal political activities between 2010 and 2012 during the Lee Myung-bak administration. Prosecutors believe his actions amount to embezzling government money as he is suspected to have backed illegal political activities. An attorney for another former senior NIS official, Lee Jong-myeong, who was indicted on the same charges, has also denied any wrongdoing by his client.     Taking a look at the weather, snow has let up in Seoul, but light flurries continue to fall in parts of the central region. The snowfall is expected to taper off by tomorrow, but will leave icy roads, so precautions are advised when driving.
