U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a 900 billion dollar coronavirus relief package, which was approved by Congress on Monday after long delays.

Trump on Tuesday denounced the bill as a disgrace.

With more, the BBC's Peter Bowes reports from Los Angeles.

It took Democrats and Republicans in Congress months to agree on this package of measures designed to help Americans struggling through the pandemic.

It's linked to a bigger government spending bill, parts of which Donald Trump says he strongly opposes.

In a White House video, he says he's asking Congress to immediately get rid of wasteful and unnecessary items in the legislation such as financial assistance to other countries.

And he says what he calls the ridiculously low 600 dollars that most Americans would've received as a lump payment should be increased to 2,000 dollars.

The president's intervention casts doubt on whether a coronavirus aid bill will now be passed into law before Joe Biden is sworn in as president next month.
