Travelers who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 overseas will be exempt from South Korea's mandatory 14-day quarantine when entering the country starting from July 1.
The new policy will apply to some individuals, such as citizens and foreign residents, as well people coming for family visits, business, academic purposes or national interest purposes.
Since May 5, the country's quarantine exemption was only applicable to those fully vaccinated in South Korea.
Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum announced the impending change on Sunday, explaining travelers will need to fill out an application, and will still need to be tested for the coronavirus before and after arriving in the country.
To be eligible, individuals must have received vaccines approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
They include the AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinopham and Sinovac shots.
But the exemption will not apply to travelers from 13 countries where coronavirus variants are rampant, such as South Africa and Brazil.
