People in South Korea will get four extra days off this year.
The National Assembly approved on Tuesday legislation to increase substitute holidays for all public holidays that fall on weekends.
The new bill stipulates that the first weekday after a public holiday that falls on either a Saturday or Sunday should be designated as an alternative holiday.
It was promoted by the ruling Democratic Party as part of efforts to reduce working hours and boost domestic consumption.
The bill is expected to take effect immediately.
That means for National Liberation Day on August 15, which falls on a Sunday, people will not have to go to work the following day.
Three more holidays - National Foundation Day on Sunday, October 3, Hangeul Day on Saturday, October 9, and Christmas, which falls on a Saturday - will also be given alternative holidays.
