India has overtaken Britain to become the country with the fourth highest number of deaths from the coronavirus.
More than 46,000 fatalities linked to the infection have now been recorded in the country.
Dr. Srinivas Rajkumar, the general secretary of the Resident Doctors' Association in New Delhi, says the situation is very serious and the government strategy for dealing with the outbreak was inadequate.

"The numbers are sharply rising, even the daily number of deaths is far higher than any country in the world as of now and it is expected to continue for the next few weeks if not months because India having a very vast population and testing is insufficient even as of today. The government plans to increase the rate of testing. It is too late."
