The United Nations scrapped on Tuesday all in-person meetings at its headquarters in New York after a U.N. member nation reported five coronavirus cases among its staff.
General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir sent a letter to all 193 member states announcing the cancellation on the advice of the U.N. Medical Unit.
He did not identify the country that confirmed the cases.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, diplomats said it was the African nation of Niger, which has a staff of 17.
Assembly spokesman Brenden Varma said contact tracing is expected "to be done quickly and efficiently."
