A research team from the World Health Organization has arrived in Wuhan, the Chinese city where the novel coronavirus was first detected more than a year ago, to carry out an investigation into its origins.
The 10-member team includes experts from the United States, Japan, Vietnam and the Netherlands.
They will be working under the supervision of Chinese officials, and will have to rely on their local counterparts for data and access to records.
A government spokesman said earlier this week that the visiting experts will "exchange views" with Chinese scientists, but gave no indication whether they would be allowed to gather evidence.
The team will undergo a two-week quarantine before they begin their investigation in earnest.
