The NGO Oxfam has calculated that the combined wealth of just 10 men has increased during the coronavirus pandemic by 540 billion dollars, calling the situation shameful.

The BBC's Caroline Hawley has the details.

The charity says the super rich elite have amassed vast amounts of money while jobs are lost around the world and billions of people struggle to feed their families.

And yet, the increased wealth of just 10 men would, it says, not only pay for vaccines for the whole planet but also reverse the rise in poverty caused by coronavirus.

Instead of cutting aid, as the U.K. is planning, Oxfam is calling on countries to raise funds from those who've profited most during the pandemic.
