President Joe Biden has said the approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children in the United States is a giant step in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Pfizer shot was approved on Wednesday for children over 12 years old.
At a press conference, Biden said it was important for children to get vaccinated, emphasizing the vaccine is safe, effective, and free.

"About three million COVID-19 cases have been reported in kids under 17 years of age. And teenagers can spread it to their friends, siblings, and to their parents and grandparents. Now, that vaccine is authorized for ages 12 and up, and I encourage their parents to make sure they get the shot."
Advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concluded that the vaccine will let kids safely attend camps this summer and help pave the way for a more normal return to classrooms.
