International athletes set to participate in Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics could be kicked out of Japan if they violate coronavirus prevention regulations.
The International Olympics Committee's Operations Director Pierre Ducrey said the range of punishments for breaking antivirus rules could range from a warning to permanent expulsion from the Olympics to withdrawal of accreditation and even deportation.
According to the third and newest version of the rule book released Tuesday by organizers, fines may also be levied.
All foreigners entering Japan for the Games will be required to follow complex testing rules before and after arrival.
They must also agree to have their location monitored by GPS, download several apps, maintain social distancing and stay off public transportation for the first 14 days of their stay.
Ducrey said they expect everybody to follow the rules, but they also have to be aware there could be infractions.
The Olympics and Paralympics will involve some 15,000 athletes and thousands of coaches and trainers.
