New York will soon become the first big city in the United States to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for anyone who wants to dine indoors at a restaurant, watch performances or go to the gym.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday the new restriction will take effect over the next several weeks.
People will have to show proof that they have recevied at least one vaccine dose.
"The goal here is to convince everyone that this is the time. If we're going to stop the Delta variant, the time is now," de Blasio said.
He said vaccination cards will be accepted along with state and city apps.
President Joe Biden said he supported New York City's move.
