Park Su-kyung, new presidential adviser for science and technology
President Moon Jae-in has picked a female scientist and professor as his new adviser for science and technology.
Park Su-kyung, who teaches mechanical engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, is to assume the vice-ministerial level position, according to Cheong Wa Dae, becoming the youngest member of Moon`s senior aide team at the top office.
Born in 1973, she studied mechanical engineering at KAIST and earned a master`s degree from the school before earning a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
In a statement, presidential spokesman Kang Min-seok said Park is expected to contribute to accelerating South Korea's push for science, technology and ICT innovation, citing her research in the biomechanics field and former service on the Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology.
