The government on Monday began executing its third extra budget worth 35.1 trillion won as part of a move to minimize the negative economic impacts of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The National Assembly passed the budget plan last Friday, 29 days after it was submitted in early June.

It is the single largest distribution of funds in the nation's history.

The government is expected to execute more than 75 percent of the latest budget within three months to help key industries get over virus-induced shocks, entrepreneurs in need of liquidity and investments as well as to create and protect jobs.

It has already spent more than 90 percent of the first and second virus response budgets.
