The number of coronavirus patients linked to a cluster of infections that emerged from a temple in the southwestern city of Gwangju has reached at least 87 as of noon Monday.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said seven more people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in connection to patients who visited Gwangleug Temple last month.
The first known patient in this cluster was confirmed on June 27 and since then related infections have spread to a studio apartment complex in the city, a church, a nursing home and among members of a local travelers club.
There are suspicions, however, the cluster may have started at the apartment complex as it was later found that a resident there contracted the virus before June 27.
The KCDC said it is looking into the matter.
