The government plans to provide 47 million face masks to elementary, middle and high school students during the second half of the year to better protect them from the novel coronavirus.
That's around eight masks per student, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The ministry on Monday said 8.5 billion won of the third extra budget recently passed by parliament has been set aside to purchase the masks.
Meanwhile, the government will use 12 billion won of the supplementary budget to provide counseling and other interventions to support health care workers who have stress or psychological trauma from the pandemic.
