The U.S. State Department on Thursday lowered its travel advisory for the city of Daegu, placing all of South Korea under Level 3, which means reconsider travel.
Daegu, some 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, had been placed under the highest tier, "do not travel," following a mass outbreak of COVID-19 in the city early this year.
The State Department said on its website, "South Korea has resumed most transportation options, (including airport operations and re-opening of borders) and business operations (including day cares and schools)," adding that "other improved conditions" have also been reported within the country.
South Korea has so far reported nearly 14,500 coronavirus cases, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and 302 fatalities, carrying out more than 1.6 million tests since January 3.
