South Korea has recorded 110 new coronavirus cases and one more death, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said Thursday.

A total of 95 local infections and 15 imported cases were reported over the past 24 hours, raising the national caseload to 24,988, with the death toll reaching 439.

The number of new daily local infections marks a sharp hike from 53 a day earlier, and comes three days after the government eased social distancing to the lowest level under its three-tiered system.

While health authorities continue to battle sporadic cluster infections and untraceable cases, they are keeping close watch over a new outbreak in the southern port city of Busan, where more than 50 patients and workers at a convalescent hospital for seniors have tested positive for COVID-19.

The latest data also showed 82 patients across the country in serious or critical condition.

The total number of people released from quarantine after making full recoveries stood at 23,082, up 52 from Wednesday.
