President Moon Jae-in has asked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to support South Korean Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee's bid to lead the World Trade Organization.

Moon spoke with Trudeau on the phone Tuesday morning, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

During their 25-minute long conversation, the president spoke highly of Yoo's leadership and said she will successfully carry out reform of the organization if elected.

Moon has also sought support from the leaders of Chile, Kazakhstan, Denmark and India.

Yoo is competing against former Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to become the first female director general of the WTO.
