The government has designated the next two weeks as a special quarantine period for the national college entrance exam, or Suneung, in an effort to keep students safe amid the pandemic.

From Thursday until December 3, test day, authorities will be disinfecting places that students regularly visit, such as cram schools, study cafes, PC rooms and singing rooms.

According to the education ministry, if a COVID-19 infection is reported at a cram school, information about the facility will be made public.

The ministry said it has also recommended high schools to switch to distance learning in the run-up to the exam.

More than 493,000 students are expected to take the College Scholastic Ability Test this year, including students hospitalized for COVID-19 and those under quarantine.
