Seoul has slammed Tokyo again for laying claim over South Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo.
On Monday, while addressing the opening of the Diet's regular session, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Dokdo belongs to Japan historically and under international law.
The statement marks the eighth straight year Japan's top diplomat has made the territorial claim, stroking tensions between the neighboring countries.
Seoul's foreign ministry issued a statement in response, saying it strongly protests Motegi's comments, and called for an immediate withdrawal and halt to such claims.
The ministry also stressed that Dokdo is clearly South Korean territory historically, geographically and according to international law.
