Despite a recent drop in the daily number of new coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has stressed that COVID-19 still presents a significant threat to life in South Korea.

Chung cited the drop in cluster infections over the past week during a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on Tuesday, but pointed out that the coronavirus is still spreading among family members, friends and colleagues.

He urged the general public to follow antivirus rules in everyday activities.

The prime minister also expressed concern about the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday and warned that if precautions are not taken now, it could lead to another wave of infections.
