Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has called on officials to devote all their energy to blocking the spread of the coronavirus from multiple clusters connected to religious facilities across the country.
He stressed the urgency of identifying virus hotspots and patients during an interagency meeting Wednesday, after 109 infections were reported from the TCS International School in Gwangju, an unlicensed facility operated by International Mission (IM), a Christian organization with a nationwide network.
The first related cluster was reported over the weekend at the IEM School in Daejeon, which has been tied to 171 infections.
Another outbreak at an affiliated facility in Gwangju, the TCS Ace International School, has recorded at least 31 cases.
A total of 318 coronavirus patients have been connected to these religious centers so far.
Officials are looking into the possibility of the virus spreading among other IM related groups in other regions as part of active measures to prevent another massive outbreak.
