U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says he's glad to be in Seoul to meet with top officials.
Blinken made the remark in a tweet Wednesday, upon his arrival to South Korea.
He noted that the Washington and Seoul alliance is strong and allows the two countries to work together to meet current challenges, including nuclear proliferation.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also stressed the importance of the alliance amid unprecedented threats from China and North Korea during a meeting with his Korean counterpart, Minister Suh Wook, this afternoon.
Suh is said to have highlighted the need to maintain a joint defense readiness posture against the North.
Blinken and Austin will sit down with their local counterparts on Thursday for a so-called two-plus-two meeting, and then pay a courtesy call on President Moon Jae-in later in the day.
