The government has once again urged all citizens to cancel unnecessary get-togethers amid signs of a fourth wave of COVID-19.
Senior health ministry official Yoon Tae-ho on Wednesday warned against letting one's guard down as the pandemic continues.
During a daily press briefing he noted the recent surge in new infections in the capital region and elsewhere, stressing that such spikes in transmission call for tougher social distancing rules.
Authorities plan to announce on Friday whether to maintain the current social distancing scheme and other antivirus measures, including a ban on social gatherings of more than four people.
Yoon added that the government will prepare extra hospital beds in the case the country reports more than 2,000 daily cases.
