The head of the KDCA has said an announcement will likely be made this weekend about whether or not the government will resume full use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after it was suspended for those under the age of 60 due to blood clot concerns.
Jeong Eun-kyeong, who also heads the vaccination task force, said Thursday that the matter will be discussed with local experts before a decision is made on Sunday.
Special education instructors and grade school teachers nationwide were next in line to begin receiving the vaccine.
Health authorities have reportedly already decided to resume vaccinations with the AstraZeneca jab, but are waiting to give an official statement until internal consultations are finalized.
Health Minister Kwon Deok-chul earlier stressed the importance of the vaccine, but told reporters the move to suspend its use was made with safety in mind.
