Unification Minister Lee In-young said Friday that South Korea proposed to North Korea on Thursday setting up a virtual conference system for two-way talks.

Lee said the proposal was made via a recently restored liaison hotline.

He told reporters that he hopes Pyongyang will respond positively.

Lee said Seoul will try to set up the system for virtual talks or "safe in-person talks" as soon as possible to make progress on stalled dialogue.

The minister stressed preparations have already been made to ensure that the two Koreas could hold cross-border meetings free from coronavirus concerns.
