Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum has said a decision and announcement will be made Friday over whether to extend current social distancing rules to support the fight against COVID-19.
Seoul, the surrounding Gyeonggi Province and Incheon remain under the strictest Level 4 distancing system, while most all other areas are under Level 3 measures.
Current restrictions, including limits on private gatherings and business operations, are scheduled to expire on Sunday.
Kim said during an interagency meeting Wednesday that they will monitor the situation for one or two more days before discussing next-step measures that will likely take effect next Monday.
Government officials have warned that tougher antivirus curbs may be implemented if infection rates show no signs of letting up.
The prime minister also reassured that South Korea has enough vaccine supply.
He added that the country is in talks with pharmaceutical companies to secure more shots for next year.
