The South Korean military is kicking off on Monday annual drills that involve field training exercises.
The Hoguk defense exercise will run through next Friday, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
All three branches of the country's armed forces -- the Army, Navy and Air Force -- as well as the Marine Corps will take part in the outdoor maneuvers.
Officials said the drills are aimed at enhancing military readiness and boosting joint operations capabilities.
The JCS strssed that COVID-19 prevention measures will be enforced throughout the exercise.
